Escorted Tours - FAQ

When can we do this tour?

This tour starts every Saturday throughout the year, except over Christmas and New year.

How big are your tour groups?

We keep the groups small and maximum 16 people.

Do we need a visa to go to Peru?

If you are an American, Canadian or Australian citizen or a citizen of the European Union you do not need a visa. Your passport is sufficient. For other countries please check with your local Peruvian embassy or consulate.

Do we need insurance to go on this trip?

Bargain Peru strongly recommend that you purchase insurance to cover your investment, but it is not required. Amazing Peru does not offer insurance, but we can recommend good places to look. Please ask for more details.

What is the weather like in Peru?

In Peru there are basically two seasons at the same time. In the highlands (Cuzco and Machu Picchu), the high season is from May to September. During this time, the days are mild and dry but evenings can get very cold. November – April is the wetter season in the highlands. During this time you might get rain in the afternoons, but in general the temperatures are mild with cold evenings.

On the coast (Lima, Nazca and Trujillo), high season is September – February. During this time, the days are mild. December – March is peak summer with warm and dry days.

March – October on the coast is the colder, wetter season, when the sky is often gray due to the garúa mist covering the coast.

What do you recommend for the altitude in Cuzco, Puno and Huaraz?

We recommend taking it very easy on the first day when you arrive to Cuzco/Puno/Huaraz. Do not rush and do stop for rests if needed. Drink a lot of fluids, eat light meals rather than full meals and try to refrain from drinking alcohol for a day or so as this increases dehydration, the principal cause of altitude headaches. Your hotel will most likely provide Coca Tea in your room. This is a fantastic tea using the natural coca leaf. It is fantastic at fighting the effects of altitude and has been used for hundreds of years by the locals when going up in the mountains.

There are altitude medications you can take if you feel you need it and these can be bought at pharmacies in Lima.

Do we need vaccinations when we travel to Peru?

We recommend that you contact your local vaccination centre for more information. Yellow fever vaccination is recommended for trips to the jungle.
